The Weekly Surprise

2 min readThe Weekly Surprise 001: Young Yosef, Pool, Hoodboi

‘The Weekly Surprise’ is a quick rundown of the most unexpectedly great music that I stumbled upon the last week (or so) ✌️

Hope you find them surprising in a good way. Let’s dive right into it.

Pool – Take Me Out

I don’t know why I haven’t heard of Pool before; certainly one of biggest regrets of 2019 so far. What a duo!

‘Take Me Out’ has got such fresh disco rhythms paired with an overall lovely indie vibe, guitar riffs, excellent vocals… They seem to have it all those guys!

Make sure you check out their other single ‘Moving On’ as well, and then let’s just hope to hear much more in 2019.

Hoodboi – Lotus 1973

Hoodboi returned with one of the biggest surprises in a looong time for me. Incredibly groovy track that the US producer just released out of nowhere after a long period of silence.

I’ve followed Hoodboi for a while now, and while he’s been great in many ways (e.g. ‘Glide’ and ‘Tunnel Vision’ with Jerry Folk), this is certainly something different. Having started with future bass/chill trap a few years back and then going on experienting a lot with his sound, this is a welcome change.

If we’re going to hear more of this in the future, I can already tell Hoodboi will be a new favourite of mine.

Young Yosef – Lactation

The Berlin five-piece, Young Yosef, only have a couple of tracks out so far, but their groove really got to me when I first heard about them a little while ago. The newest single ‘Lactation’ has such a smooth and funky touch that makes you feel great inside.

Together with the first single, ‘Bruce Lee’, the band really underline their quality and production skills. Listen to it below (along with Berlin-based Hush Moss’ amazing single, co-produced by same producer of Young Yosef’s tunes).

Hope you liked this post. For tons of more grooves check out:
